A week to be reckoned with; tidal waves and volcanoes.

It's been a little while since I wrote a piece (apologies there has been too much going on) but the configuration for this forthcoming Full Moon inspired me to action. Possibly because it falls close enough to my North Node (spiritual path) in my 3rd house of communication to have an impact prior to it's culmination.

Much of the past few months have been riddled with the proximity of Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn. These two heavy-weights have been causing havoc in the lives of those with planets between around 18-23 degree Capricorn and in aspect.

Let me touch on this first. For those of you who only know your Sun signs, you will definitely have been affected by this Saturn-Pluto cohort if you were born between; 9th to 14th January, 9th to 14th April, 10th to 16th July and 11th to 17th October.  Many many others will have been too, but I would have to look at the rest of your chart to ascertain.


The main experience of these two planets together is; great upheaval, your life being subject to unavoidable change and sometimes difficulty. I have seen the impact upon some people's health, due to increased stress levels, there have been financial implications too, and dips in the overall sense of well-being experienced. Due to this affecting so many people, the domino effect is that we are all aware of a lower overall energy surrounding us at the moment and vitality is lower than usual.

Fortunately Jupiter in Sagittarius is keeping up the spirits in some ways and will be more impactful again from mid-August onwards.

So, in terms of this Full Moon which will be at 9:30am (UK time), on Monday 17th June, the added energy of Mercury, Mars and the transiting node making an aspect to the Saturn-Pluto conjunct will lead to a very intense time indeed.

To explain. Mercury rules communication, wherever Mercury falls in our birthchart will denote how we communicate, in which ways we excel or flounder and it can also tell us about our voice, whether we have a gift for singing or writing, or intuition. A weak Mercury may be prone to gossip, talking too much or the inability to express oneself at all, where as a well developed Mercury may be an award winning writer, a charismatic speak or a beautiful singer.

On the other hand, Mars rules our physical energy. We all know that Mars is the archetypal masculine symbol and that it rules passion, sex, testosterone and drive. Along with this it is also linked to our physical vitality and therefore our health, and where it falls in our chart will show how strong, sporty, resilient, energetic and assertive we are. A poorly integrated Mars can be a very angry person, whereas a well used Mars may be a champion sports person.

Consider these two planets together in the home, loving, family oriented sign of Cancer and we can see a picture beginning to build. Certainly there will be a lot more to talk about whilst these two are together between Sunday 16th June and Thursday 20th June. There may be a lot of upfront dialogues, and issues raised which have been swept under the metaphorical carpet for a while. The closest people to you are the ones who can hurt you the most and at this time words may very well be spoken out of turn impulsively and emotionally.

Try to think before you speak but, also trust what you feel. If there are important thing left unsaid, it is healthier for all parties if these areas are aired. After all the impact of ones feelings towards their closest collaborates can be felt, whether the issue has been discussed or not. It is far more productive to be honest and open, providing the ability to move forwards and let go, than it is to hold onto pain, grudges or allow small irritations build into large defenses. (Pearls are decidedly out of fashion as it goes).

The nodes being in the mix with all this does imply that there will be some important decisions made globally this week. Mercury and Mars together can be feisty and at times, ferocious, but with their meet up being in opposition to that heavy, life-changing Saturn-Pluto conjunction I was talking about, gravitas and impact start to become more likely.

On a basic political view, Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn are there to shake things up, for better or for worse and mostly with the latter in mind first. In history humans have generally resisted change without upheaval and hardship figuring in the picture to start to rouse up the lethargy of the security-seeking, changing-fearing, everyday person. Most people don't like to rock the boat and hence, they will not try to make a difference until the boat capsizes. We've seen this time and time and again, and the human race hasn't evolved beyond this basic. Obviously this unfortunately means that, even in this day when we have all the knowledge and information available to us to make big changes, usually big events have to occur before action is taken.

I'm not saying anything momentous is going to happen this week, but I am saying that events that begin this week may lead to much bigger scenarios occurring further down the line. Saturn and Pluto only actually link up exactly once, and that will be on 12th/13th January 2020. There will be a link with what happens around this time, with outcomes that occur then.

A more political astrologer may make more definitive predictions here. As I've mentioned before, the last time Saturn and Pluto were together in Capricorn, was when Henry VIII made a treaty to unify Europe and reduce the attacks between neighbouring countries! (See Treaty of London 1518) I find it wonderfully ironic that the UK are trying to break away from Europe, under the same configuration that the Tudors used for unification. Have we evolved at all?

The pinnacle day to look out for this week is actually Thursday 20th June, as Mars opposite Pluto will pull the most punches; hopefully not literally. This is the most aggressive combination of planets and the most explosive. On a simple domestic level this is a day to be cautious; remember to turn the gas off, drive carefully, try to avoid road rage and confrontation, as things are so much more likely to escalate. Natural disasters such as earthquakes, volcanoes and tornadoes are more likely too, so it's perhaps not the week to take a day trip to Vesuvius.

On the plus side Mars and Pluto together can move mountains with focus, and create amazing passion when two people work together in their energies, rather than opposing forces. This can be a healing time too when knowledge and awareness are used to create closeness, rather than chasms.

Disputes can happen in scenarios where there is a lack of balance between work and home also, as the featured signs of Cancer (home, family, nurture, domesticity) and Capricorn (work, career, ambition, focus) always are at odds a little bit on this one.

The actual Full Moon itself is merely a ripple in a week of high tides, but deserves a mention, as we all feel the intensity build up of a full moon from time to time. It will be at 25 degrees Sagittarius and so felt most by this who were born with their Sun near or opposite this (birth dates; 16th to 20th December and 15th to 19th June)

It throws a loose nod to the building square between Jupiter and Neptune which may throw a spiritual caste over us all and help to mitigate stress and tension. Although, so far it seems that Jupiter (excess, expansion, fun and joy) has only been bringing the more damp tendencies of Neptune (transcendence, higher love, soulfulness and ruler of the sea) to the fore; via constant rain.

The energy of the full moon should be quite positive and upbeat overall, and it is followed by Eros moving into Libra which will bring passion, and romance back where pickiness and criticism have been a little too prescient in recent weeks.

Try to let of steam this weekend and enjoy the upbeat, exploratory, joviality of the full moon in Sagittarius, and allow tensions to be released in a good way. It may help to reduce the possibilities of tensions and conflicts later in the week.

New Moon at 7'43 Scorpio ~ Sunday 30th October 2016

The Scorpio new moon will fall on Sunday 30th October at 17:37 (UK time) and for the first time in a while heralds a pure feeling of new starts, without any lurking heaviness. The chart for this new Moon shows a conjunct from the Sun and Moon at 7’43 to Mercury at 9’40 Scorpio, encouraging honest, candid and open communication.

The Sun and Mercury actually are conjunct today (Thursday 27th October) and so the whole weekend will be imbued with lively conversation and depth which Scorpio so naturally inclines towards. If you are a secretive person who prefers the truth to be hidden, then it could be better to lie low this weekend. People will be saying what they see more than usual, and barriers which have been created by the recent fogginess of the Saturn-Neptune square will be burned, broken or buried by the formation of better bonds.

The New Moon chart also shows a Venus-Saturn conjunction in Scorpio, which is actually exact at 0:05 on the Sunday morning UK time. Whilst this brings with a straightforwardness that sits nicely with the Sun-Mercury conjunction in Scorpio, it does also have a sombreness that is rather more akin to redressing issues of contention, than to Saturday night style parties.


When Venus and Saturn come together it can be a great time for real relationships to be given a more solid footing. While Venus is concerned with art, beauty, aesthetics, finances and love, Saturn is all about building foundations, achieving, formalising and commitment. If these two planets had never met than marriage would probably never have been invented, as the sum of their parts represents the kind of long-term promises, cited in the wedding ceremony.

In the study of synastry (the name for the study of relationship using astrology) connections between Venus and Saturn are a portentous promise of serious commitment in a relationship. With this aspect in the sky casual may become more formal and stability may be sought by some and separation by others, where the ingredients for long-term are simply not present. The latter is made more likely by the Mars-Uranus square (exact on the morning of 29th October) and creating the need for freedom in those who feel stifled in any way.


Mars is about the drive, energy and physicality of the self. It rules sports, the sex drive, combat and initiation and when it meets the planet of revolution and freedom; Uranus it enhances self-expression and hedonism. When these two come together disputes and fights become more likely but the source of this kind of behaviour is often built up from the suppression and confinement. One cannot feel the need to ‘break out’ and become more expressive, without these being pent up emotions beforehand. Hence, when Mars and Uranus meet they help us take a step towards acknowledging our own inclinations and true beliefs. I personally am happy to see people stand up for what they believe in and for the right to express who they truly are. There is no maliciousness or meanness with this combination, only the fight for what we feel to be our truth and, as a natural Uranian, I wish to encourage that at all times, in all people.


Stand up for what you believe, always but first you may need to search deep within yourself to learn what it truly is.

We live in a society which educates us to know the facts, but rarely are we encouraged to question them. We are told that we should form an opinion but then are offered the choice of two option upon which to decide. At school the option to decide upon a career is thrust upon us, but only if we follow the distinct procedures to reach the destination and therefore learn that we have to read and analyse the same books in order to express our ability. An ability which is gauged upon whether an examiner agrees.


For those who have been conditioned by all of the above and have never questioned; the sign of Scorpio may fill you with fear and dread. A connection between Mars and Uranus could bring up feelings of confusion and frustration, the desire to break out of something, but not know what that something is. So, yes, some people may have to start to dig deep.

Full Moon at 23'14 Aries, 15th October 2016

The forthcoming full moon occurs at 5:23am in the UK, on Sunday 15^th October, give the Saturday night prior an excellent upbeat flavour of lunacy. 

Exact at 23’14 Aries and closely conjunct Uranus 22’25 Aries, this looks to be a very high energy full moon, with a much needed boost of liberated, free-spirited expressiveness promised. 

As the first sign of the zodiac; Aries is the initiator, the fearless youth, the relentless and ruthless ramrodding ram.  There’s nothing tentative about Aries, and nothing preconceived either; for this reason it can be recognised as one of those honest and forthright signs and this full moon may uncover a few festering truths.

 There’s no doubt that this year has been a complex one; both politically and financially and in some way we’ve all been dragged into the furore.  As previously mentioned, this has been largely down the backdrop of Saturn square Neptune, which was been creating a division between conforming and creativity; conservatism and idealism; facts and the unfathomable.  These two planets stand for diversely different principles; not even opposing ones, which can provide some common ground at least.  What they are about simply cannot co-exist; it is said that somebody born with a configuration of this sort (Saturn square Neptune, Saturn opposite Neptune or even Saturn conjunct Neptune) is more likely to develop arthritis in later life; as the skeleton (ruled by Saturn) can be weakened by the planet of dissolution and fluidity; Neptune!  Compare this metaphor to any area of life and an illustration of 2016 starts to appear.

There is always something to learn of course and from this, the lesson is in not being extreme.  By taking ‘sides’ or seeing the world in ‘black and white’ we miss out on the beauty of other dimensions and complexities.  If living in the more Saturn way and focusing upon; earnings, status, building for the future, following the rules, considering how others view you, then you may forget that we are all just cells vibrating, that our bodies are mostly water and our hearts all beat in the same way.  On the other side, if you live in the Neptune extreme and exist only to escape all that is tangible, then you can equally miss out on the beauty of connectivity, cause and effect and how our worlds actually link together in the physical.  A successful (fully experienced) life will incorporate both of these principles and recognise the validity in all that exists. 

We, as humans have decided that the world exists of rights and wrongs, good and bad, happy and sad.  The Universe itself has no bias; and all that exists simply resonates with all that is similar.  Put simply; like attracts like and energy vibrations around us will match the energy vibrations within us. 

The squabbling square between Saturn and Neptune has brought to the fore a great deal of diversity awareness.  Many people seem to be trying to decide between one thing and another; the whole of America is caught up in this theatrical him versus her propaganda competition, perfectly illustrating how easy it is to rouse the public into a clear cut; two-sided division.  Certainly, many of our fables, movies and games still centre on the simplicity of the ‘goodie’ and the ‘baddie’, the right and the wrong.  All a hangover from the religion dominated dogma days.  Humans have not evolved beyond this mentality; media is the new God. 

A little off topic, but an important aside I feel.  As the Saturn-Neptune square continues to dissipate, it’s important it leaves a little legacy of wisdom its wake.  Many believe that life is about finding happiness, I believe it is about growth and authenticity; neither of which are purveyors of joy in a world where repetition is recognised more than ingenuity. 

I’m hoping the Full Moon starts to bring a little of the latter to the forefront again as Uranus; ruler of ideas, freedom, invention and revolution is given a voice once more.  There will be more struggles however as Mars creeps closer to Pluto in Capricorn and brings conflict and subversion into the spotlight also.  This will be close during the Full Moon and is due to be exact on 19^th – 20^th October.  Mars and Pluto together are very passionate also, so physical conflict can be a result but it’s also a very sexually potent combination.  Mars is at its best in Capricorn, where it is now, and so for better or worse, people are more sure of themselves, clearer in opinions and higher in energy.  Directed energy can be a great thing, or can lead to confrontations, it is at least, expressive and the week following the Full Moon will not be a quiet one.

Adding to the passionate mix; the art and love planet Venus still in Scorpio, meets up with the asteroid Juno, which is all destiny and allegedly in the natal chart shows up as a representation of the ‘perfect partner’.  Certainly Venus and Juno meeting up in Scorpio will encourage people to be seeking compatibility and deeper connections. 

It is a week where it would be easier to find a new relationship, but with Uranus so majorly prominent it would have to be one where freedom and self-expression is factored in strongly.  Also passions could run a little too high in a relationship beginning with a Mars-Pluto conjunction, both individuals would need be very expressive, energetic and be comfortable with the ensuing conflict which is an inevitable by-product of such a combination.

As Jupiter races through Libra and triggers of the Saturn-Neptune square, we will find a lot of behind the scenes information starts to be revealed towards the end of the month.  This will be compounded by the Scorpio New Moon which will be on Halloween for the first time since 1997!  More about that closer to the time…

Lunar Eclipse 16th September ~~ love your vulnerabilities~~ 24° Pisces

This lunar eclipse is the final of the season and is exact on Friday 16^th September at 8:05pm in the UK at 24’19 Pisces.

It will be visible from the UK, and reaches its closest point at 19:54.  However, this is a penumbral lunar eclipse; meaning the earth’s shadow falls on only a small portion of the Moon and so the change in light will be barely noticeable.

Although only a partial and therefore less potent eclipse; astrologically we have quite a powerful and emotional chart, with the Moon in Pisces sat next to Chiron the wounded healer.  Whilst Chiron is only regarded astronomically as an asteroid, it has a very powerful affect in an astrological chart.

I regard Chiron to be the ruler of Virgo as it correlates with the perfectionist, hygienic and self-deprecating traits of the sign; along with showing the triumphs of conscientiousness, kindness, service to others and innate patience which come from the taking ones owns own needs out of the equation. 

Where Chiron falls in a chart will tell you a lot about your deepest vulnerabilities and fears and I will always look to this area of the chart to understand how best to empathise and understand somebody’s true needs.  By connecting with somebody’s Chiron, you will be able to develop a truly deep bond, so long as your intentions are entirely genuine. 

Chiron is exalted in Gemini, as by expressing and sharing your wounds you can connect with others on a deep level and encourage them to share their own.  Chiron is connected with anorexia, OCD and self-purging kinds of behaviours when at its most difficult and suppressed positions.  Facing the fear of others’ judgement and acknowledging your weaknesses in this area is where this energy triumphs into connectivity, and healing begins.  Hence, many of the best healers, carers, nurses and nurturers have a strong Chiron position and have learned how to recognise the wounds in others, by understanding and having already integrated these within themselves.  We’ve all heard that the best counsellors are those with personal expertise in the applicable area. 

The main focus of this lunar eclipse is upon accepting ourselves, acknowledging our deepest fears and in turn being sensitive to those of others.  With Mars closely square the Moon-Chiron eclipse point, there may be fallouts and disagreements triggering these weak spots.  For those of you who find yourselves in an argument with somebody you care about around this time, do try to breathe, step back and recognise that many of us become angry when we at our most scared.  By looking at the source of behaviour, rather than reacting the behaviour itself we have the opportunity to become closer and create a bridge between those who may have formed chasms of self-preservation.

As always the key to the best possible outcome is to consider, “what would love do now.”  When in an ego state the tendency is to defend one’s position and fight to win an argument, or cover up a part of the self that we fear others seeing.  Love on the other hand has nothing to hide, and knows that where it exists then more love will manifest.  We always end up a reflection of what we project, and this isn’t only the case on a conscious level, but on all levels of energy.  Spending time chanting mantras every day will eventually re-programme the subconscious into positive patterns, but this needs to be corroborated with good intent at other times too.  It is not what we say to others, it is what we think to others that matters the most.

Words can help and with Chiron they can create a form of connection between people which breaks down the most inpenetrable barriers, but sending love is just as powerful, often more so.

Is there anybody in your life who you feel anger for?  Are you seething, or festering an energy which has the effect of draining your core spirit?  Is there an impasse which causes you distress or upset?  Are you holding on to a scenario from the past and replaying it in your mind?

I read an article this week about how the neurons in the brain work as muscles and become stronger and more able to perform wherever they are exercised the most.  Which areas of thought do you over-emphasise?  Do these thoughts serve you and help you create the next stage of the life you wish for, or do they hold you back and reinforce a negative view? 

We can re-programme anything we wish if we believe so.  Amends can be made with any person we want, there are no boundaries, only those which we create for ourselves.  Sometimes those which have been created for us by others in our childhood and we have replayed through habit, rather than choice.  Chiron often reflects early programming which has been passed by parents and peers to us through our formative years.  Often those who fear ‘ending up like their parents’ are the ones who end up exactly as their parents. 

The key is choice.  We cannot change our wounds, we cannot discount our vulnerabilities but we can turn them into strengths and connectivity.  We can look at our own defensive, or angry, or subversive responses to weakness and recognise these same mechanisms in those around us.

Chiron is the key; the key to understanding that we all suffer the same wounds, the same fears but we are also all capable of expressing the same love.

Full Moon at 25° Aquarius ~ Thursday 18th August

The Full Moon will be exact at 10:26 on Thursday 18th August and although it falls slightly outside the astronomical guide of being termed a penumbral eclipse; it can be regarded as the first of this Autumn's eclipse season.

This is a lovely free-spirited full moon being in the rebellious and expressive sign of Aquarius and forming a soft and supportive sextile aspect to Uranus; the ruler of Aquarius which is currently moving retrograde at 24° Aries.

Fire and air signs will feel an uplift at this full Moon, whereas the more earthy and watery among us may not feel quite so comfortable with the unpredictable and creativity that the Aquarius energy brings.

In the UK chart we see this full Moon occurring in the; traditionally Leonine, creative 5th House, in close proximity to the erotic asteroid; Eros bringing the possibility of romance to those who have a planet around 25° Aquarius, or Leo, this equates to those born close 14th February and for Leos celebrating their birthday around this time.

It's certainly a perfect mid-Summer excuse to celebrate and fully enjoy a weekend with no worries or concerns (the Virgo new Moon in two weeks will provide plenty of opportunity for that!)

There is a more serious underlying tone to this chart though, as Mars creeps closer to Saturn in Sagittarius and asks us to take a moment to consider where and to whom we give most of our attention.  With Saturn falling in the 3rd House of this chart, the recent political dramas are not forgotten and the backdrop of celebration is that some of us need to let our hair down and be frivolous because of the stress around us.

As always I'd like to encourage people to be concerned less about the negative, drone of media, somberness that we have no power to alter, and to switch our attention to that which is within our personal domain.  I watch so many folk walking beneath metaphorical suitcases of other peoples' baggage and seemingly oblivious to the beauty and possibilities which are all around them.

You don't need to practice Buddhism to realise that happiness and gratitude and laughter can only e experienced in the moment.

Venus crossed the North Node a couple of days ago but in this chart is still pointing towards love and friendship being the key ingredients of life.  With Aquarius being the sign of friendship, the emphasis of enjoying life and surrounding oneself with lovely people in the process, is reiterated.

There is a meditative side to also, with Mercury linking up with jubilant Jupiter in the 12th House of secrets and dreams.  Predictive and prophetic dreams are very possible on the days surrounding this full Moon, so it's worth spending those few moment to wake up slowly and reflect on any messages which may have come through.

Passion is reinforced by Pluto's perfect trine to Venus and broadening the potential of romantic bonds being formed around this time to all.  This week is a great time to be out and meeting new people, or reigniting bonds which need a little new life and rejuvenation.  With Pluto exactly at the IC (home, hearth and family line) however there will be some surprises for some and changes for others.  Pluto only removes that which is no longer required, but it can often feel like a great wrench and loss primarily.  It would be naive for me to gloss over the potential for shocking events to occur at this time but with such supportive planets overall I'm hoping for a few good surprises and revelations which are more about love than loss.

Another side to Pluto is that of fate and karma; whilst these are words usually associated with Saturn, actually is the Pluto in our charts which predicts most of the life changing events.  When noting Pluto in an angular position; as in this chart, it is important to consider that this is a time where what is meant to be is more likely.  Astrologers have noted in the past that there is a 'soul mate' indication when Venus and Pluto link up together and this week could bring some very notable and life-changing encounters.  When Aquarius and Uranus take centre-stage we can always expect the unexpected.
